SO.....WHAT'S
NEWS???
Brighton
Fisho's Luncheon
We
were so thrilled with the number of girls who came to Brighton
Fisho's on 28th June to hear the wonderful Professor Tony Bro
speak. We had a (very sudden!!) unscheduled venue change, and
most of the girls handled it with true show-biz class. The meal
was HUGE, to say the least, and one very overworked waiter (Stanley)
served every girl there. He was SO overworked, that Maria even
helped him out. (SEE PICS BELOW) Professor Bro gave us some insight
as to what ALVA helps fund every year with Aging Research. He
also gave the girls some re-assurance about aging and conditions
that some thought were hereditary (we're not ALL going mad girls....NOT
YET!). Julie T managed to get some more Year of the Tiger decor
in to brighten up the room, and the ALVA girls and their goss
did the rest. Many thanks to all who came. We had a terrific day.

Mosman
Luncheon 3rd May 2010
You'd
think Mosman RSL would be sick to death of us by now!! Yet, they
keep coming back for more. A whole gaggle of girls turned up for
the FABULOUS food and the prospect of some Hollywood goss from
our intrepid guest Craig Bennett. He didn't disappoint
either with stories about Jan Adele,
John
Michael Howson, life in the USA, the LOGIES and how much
Variety Entertainers are missed on the red carpet these days -
he's OUR kinda guy!!
All
the girls had a great time. See some pics HERE

A
glittering night was had by the Variety Showbiz Elite at Bankstown

the Awardees were announced. Many ALVA girls were nominated and
also won! A full report will be in your next newletter. For some

ALVA
MAKES A PROFIT!!
Some
very happy news from our Treasurers, Pat Scroope and Kerri Lacey.
In 2009 ALVA made a profit of $14,259.30. This is an amazing effort
from all concerned, up some $10,000 from the year before.
Many
thanks to all our ALVA girls, and their guests for your continued
support!!!
ALVA
OFFICE RE-FURB
If
you walked into the ALVA Office these days, you wouldn't recognize
it! We have managed to have it cleaned and repainted - and it
looks like a different room. Your committee walked in to their
first meeting last night, and thought they were in the wrong building!!
We
have upgraded the old fax and printer (which have finally died)
to a new multi-function centre, which this ALVA Bee and Your Treasurer
had to beat into submission before anyone else could use it!!
It
looks wonderful, and we will be bringing you all your ALVA news
and events from a much more productive space.
NEW
LOOK NEWSLETTER
Many
of you long-time ALVA girls will remember a little publication
called the "ALVA BUZZ". (it was before my time!! Heehee)
Well, we are bringing back Lizzie Taylor's little
baby and making it our 2010 Newsletter. Your Treasurer, Kerri
Lacey, and her considerable computer skills, has re-birthed
the BUZZ and it is coming to you, first time out, in the post
as I type this. It will then be delivered to you via email, for
those online (you....cos you are reading this now!!) and still
via snail mail for those who aren't.
The online
version you can preview below - it's a lot prettier than the mail
out version,
cos we
can only print in B & W! See what you think.
And don't
forget to let us know any of your news, so we can share it with
all our ALVA girls.
